The similarities of these devices are both devices have text to speech conversion services. Another similarity is both devices have the capabilities of showing lifetime maps and lifetime traffic. They are touchscreens and have online capabilities. Their display resolution is the same and they have the same screen size, which is 5 inches diagonally. They have day and night mode that can be turned on and off.

The differences are the Tomtom Via uses voice recognition technology while the Start does not have voice recognition. The Via has a wide map coverage than the Tomtom Start. The Via covers Mexico, United States and Canada, while the Tomtom start covers all the former except Mexico. Tomtom Via has more than 15 inbuilt languages. It has German, Czech and Dutch among others while the Tomtom Start has only three languages, English French and Spanish. The spoken navigation language and the user interface languages show the same trend. Some of the hardware features that differentiate these two devices are, the Tomtom Via has a QWERTY keypad, has Bluetooth connectivity and supports mounting SD cards onto the system while the Tomtom Start lacks all these.

Conclusion
It is indeed clear that the Via is superior to the Tomtom Start. It is more users friendly and has more functionality and variety compared to the Start. Besides that, the software is versatile and the hardware is diverse, covering all areas and keeping up to date with the latest technological advancement. Although the Via is more expensive by 35$ I would buy it compared to the Tomtom Start which costs 100$.
