Samsung Gear Fit vs Gear 2

Over the past few years, we have seen a lot of wearable gadgets come and go.While all of them promised excellent features and durability, only a few of them were able to impress the customers and survive in the market. Almost all of the major electronic device manufacturing companies, including Apple, Sony and Samsung are investing their time and resources in developing the next generation wearable device that combines the best of both design and functionality. This time Samsung has arrived ahead of its competitors by offering its customers two distinct yet somewhat similar wearable gadgets that are aimed at smartphone users. Samsung has launched Gear 2 and Gear Fit. Lets take a quick look at what these devices have to offer and which one of them will be better suited to your needs.

Samsung Gear Fit vs Gear 2

When you look at them, they look very different. Both devices have a different form factor. But under the skin, they are somewhat similar. While Gear 2 looks more like a traditional watch, Gear Fit resembles a sleek wrist gadget straight out of the Star Trek. Both devices are IP67 Certified, meaning that they are totally dust and water resistant. The Samsung Gear (the first in the series of wearable devices from Samsung) had a limitation, its featured a permanent strap. But this limitation has been dealt with and now you can change the straps of both the Samsung Gear 2 and the Samsung Gear Fit. If you were to decide between the two based on the form factor then we would advice you to decide in the favor of Samsung Gear Fit as it is lighter in weight and looks more compatible to an urban and active lifestyle.

In terms of functionality, both have some similar features. For example both devices feature a heart rate monitor that you can use by activating the Exercise App. It also shows you other relevant information like calories burned, time elapsed and no of steps. Once paired to your Samsung mobile phone via Bluetooth, both devices are capable of presenting you with app notifications, call details, SMS alerts and access to inbox. The functionality to accept and reject the calls is also available on both devices. But the Samsung Gear takes this functionality a step ahead and gives you the feature of using it to use it as a standalone device. You can talk over it and you can also use it as a standalone music player. Another advantage that Gear 2 has over Gear Fit is that it comes with an inbuilt camera. In terms of Functionality, Samsung Gear 2 is the clear winner.
