As a global provider of personal computer peripherals and accessories, the Swiss company Logitech International S.A. definitely doesn’t want to be left behind in the gaming market. Since gaming became trending and a profitable market, many companies including Logitech have started to produce various products designed specially for the activity. In general, Logitech’s products are considered as decent quality.
Now, if you are looking for a good-looking and reliable gaming headset, Logitech G430 and Logitech G633 may have captured your attention. Both are wired gaming headsets that support DTS Headphone: X and Dolby 7.1 Surround Sound. However, Logitech G633 is considerably more expensive than Logitech G430. So, which is the gaming headset that holds the best value for the money?
Design and Comfort
First of all, let’s start by comparing the designs of these two headsets. You definitely want a headset that is comfortable to wear. No one wants to wear something that isn’t comfortable, especially for gaming which often takes several continuous hours.
Logitech G430 is actually quite good-looking, but it is nowhere as cool as Logitech G633. Unfortunately, the black-and-blue gaming headset somehow still appears rather toyish. Perhaps this is because of the doff-colored frame. Nevertheless, the headset is quite comfy to wear. The headband is equipped with a thick padding, and the ear pads are also thick and cushy. The headset does not press too hard. Well, it can be somewhat hot after more than an hour of continuous wearing, but still tolerable. The ear cups can swivel up to 90 degrees for a personalized fit. However, neither the mic nor the cable is detachable, so the headset can be pretty cumbersome for storage and travel.
On the other hand, Logitech G633 boasts a very stylish futuristic design. The frame is black, and it is equipped with programmable RGB lights. Well, many people believe that such feature is pointless and simply just a gimmick, at least for a gaming headset, but you can’t deny that Logitech G633 looks better than Logitech G430. The headband is also padded, and overall the headset is quite comfortable. The pads are in fact breathable, so the headset does not get too hot when used continuously for several hours. But the headset is rather heavy, and thus it may tire your head after some time. Nevertheless, the cable is detachable, and the mic folds into the headset, allowing for compact storage and convenient portability.
Both Logitech G430 and Logitech G633 support DTS Headphone: X and Dolby 7.1 Surround Sound. Both can produce surround sound to give you a more immersive audio experience and a better competitive edge by determining the directions to sound sources. However, Logitech G633 is multi-platform right out of the box. It can be used on PC, PlayStation4, and Xbox One. The bundle includes a USB cable as well as a 3.5mm analog cable. On the other hand, although the documentation only mentions PC, Logitech G430 is actually able to work with PlayStation4 and Xbox One. But the bundle only includes the USB cable, hence you may need to purchase a stereo 3.5mm jack splitter cable and the Xbox One controller audio adapter.
Just like most other headsets, Logitech G430 can only connect to one source at a time. But Logitech G633 comes with an innovative feature; it comes with multiple source audio mixing which allows you to plug in two devices simultaneously through the USB port and the 3.5mm connector. This way, you will be able to answer calls and play music from your smartphone without interrupting your gaming session.
Also, Logitech G430 features an in-line control panel. There is nothing wrong with that, but having the controls on the ear cup rather than on the cable is actually more convenient. Logitech G633 has on-board controls located under the right ear cup. You will not need to fumble with the cable to find a control panel because all the controls are easily reachable on the right ear cup.
Logitech G633 also features on-board equalizers for quick adjustments and programmable G-keys that you can use to assign in-game macros or quick access to your audio profiles. Honestly, using these keys for important in-game macros is probably a bad idea because you will have to lift your hand from the mouse/keyboard – not efficient – but these keys are indeed handy for less crucial controls such as switching audio profiles.
Both Logitech G430 and Logitech G633 work with batteries. However, their batteries deplete fairly quickly, and it is probably better for you to just stick the headset to your PC’s USB or a USB power source to keep the power on.
In terms of sound quality, Logitech G430 and Logitech G633 are actually comparable to each other. Most probably, most people won’t be able to hear a difference unless you are an audiophile. Both Logitech G430 and Logitech G633 have a frequency response range of 20 Hz – 20 kHz. Both are equipped with 40 mm drivers. Logitech G430 comes with a lower impedance, 32 Ohms, but the sensitivity is lower too, 90 dB, which means that the amplifiers inside are not as powerful. Logitech G633 has an impedance of 39 Ohms and a sensitivity of 107 dB. You can expect Logitech G633 to produce slightly louder and more detailed sound than Logitech G430. Still, the sound quality of Logitech G430 is actually good. You can hear in-game sound effects and voice chats with clarity. Their noise-canceling mics are also good. The mics are able to pick up your voice clearly while attenuating background noise.

Of course, with the higher price, Logitech G633 comes with additional features. Many of these additional features are very nice. However, in terms of audio quality, it is not so much better than Logitech G430. Both headsets support surround sound. Therefore, the choice depends on whether you need any of those additional features of Logitech G633. If you think that you can benefit from the programmable keys or the multiple source audio mixing, Logitech G633 is good. If not, choose the more affordable Logitech G430.
