Logitech G430 Vs G230

Are you looking for a good gaming headset that won’t cost you the whole bank account? In order to reach your peak performance in a competitive game, you need not only a decent keyboard and mouse, but also a decent headset. A truly good headset can give you competitive edges; you definitely want to be able to hear your team’s voice chat clearly, and you don’t want to miss the footsteps of an approaching enemy. Below, we have two affordable gaming headsets with favorable reviews, Logitech G430 vs G230.

Logitech G430 and Logitech G230 look very similar to each other. They are about the same size. However, Logitech G430 is slightly more expensive, and it boasts the 7.1 virtual surround technology. But, is it really so much better than Logitech G230? Or should you choose the more affordable model instead?

If you put these two models side by side, you can tell that they are close relatives. They look very similar to each other, except for the colors. Logitech G230 has a black frame with some red touches here and there; this headset actually looks classy and elegant. On the other hand, Logitech G430 is a black frame with blue pads. Unlike Logitech G230, which has black ear pads, Logitech G430 is coming with blue ear pads, just like the top pad. Honestly, it would be better if the ear pads remain black.

Both Logitech G230 and Logitech G430 do not have programmable keys. If you want programmable keys, take a look at Logitech G430 vs G633.

Their ear pads are circumaural, and are shaped rectangularly. Both headsets are pretty tight. The top padding on each headset is quite thick, which is a good thing. The microphones on both models can fold up. Both models come with 3.5 mm cables with in-line controls. However, Logitech G230 does not come with a USB adapter. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing, as we are going to see below. Logitech G430 comes with a USB adapter.

System Compatibility
The next difference between Logitech G430 vs G230 is the system compatibility. Logitech G230 can work with Windows 7, Windows 8, and Linux platforms. However, it does not claim itself to be compatible with PS4, because it does not have any USB connection. In order for Logitech G230 to work with PS4, you need to purchase a USB adapter. The same thing for Xbox One; if you want to use Logitech G230 on Xbox One, you will need to get the “Y” audio adapter.

On the other hand, Logitech G430 is compatible with Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, and PS4. Interestingly, although the manufacturer says that it doesn’t support Linux, some Linux users find that it works fine on their platform. And, because it comes with a USB adapter, it can be used on PS4 right out of the box. In order to use it on Xbox One, you also need to get the “Y” audio adapter.

Logitech G230 and Logitech G430 seem to come with the same microphones. Both of the two models are equipped with noise-cancelling mics, which are rated to have a frequency response range of 50 Hz – 20 kHz and a sensitivity of -40dBV/Pa.

These mics are great. They effectively reduce background noise so that your voice can be heard clearly through the voice chat. They also have decent clarity and accuracy. Unfortunately, neither Logitech G230 nor Logitech G430 allows you to hear your own voice through the speakers. This can be an issue if you are the type of person who finds it difficult to control your own volume levels.

As mentioned above, Logitech G230 does not come with any USB adapter. Logitech G230 is a stereo headset. In other words, it only produces sound through left and right channels to simulate the environment. This is not necessarily a bad thing, because most of the virtual surround headset technologies aren’t so much better. Logitech G230 can still give you good hints about directions.

On the other hand, Logitech G430 comes with a USB adapter, which actually also holds the external sound card for the device. However, the quality of the USB sound card is not impressive.Logitech G430 is a 7.1 virtual surround headset that can work with both DTS Headphone:X and Dolby Surround Sound technologies.

Both Logitech G430 vs G230 are closed-back headsets. Since the ear cups completely cushion your ears, both headsets are able to block environmental noise to a degree. However, they are not the most noise-canceling headphones on the market, so you may still hear some sound from the outside world.

So, between Logitech G430 vs G230, which one has the best audio quality? If one considers the value for the money, the short answer would be Logitech G230.

The problem with Logitech G430 is the same as most other surround gaming headsets. They are not true surround. It can give you some vague idea about the three-dimensional environment and sound directions, but not like a real surround system. Sometimes, you may find the bass muddle the other sound channels. To be fair, the audio quality is actually good, but it is not so much better than the stereo Logitech G230 headset.

On the other hand, even though Logitech G230 is ‘only’ a stereo headset, it already has great audio quality. The sound is quite balanced, and the bass does not muddle the other sounds and voices. Due to the cheaper price, you can say that this is a better value for the money.

Each of the two headsets is given a three-year limited warranty. That’s a decent warranty. The warranty duration is quite long, which means that Logitech is confident with their build quality. However, keep in mind that you have to register the product to the Logitech headset in order to activate the warranty.
