Just five years ago aerial video recording was something that was only possible for a few Hollywood pros and even then involved renting expensive private helicopters but thanks to the recent popularity of video helicopter now anyone can go out and shoot their own sky high masterpiece. DJI has proved a leader in the field from very early on and has recently released their new and improved Phantom Vision Plus video helicopter. But is it really worth it to make the upgrade or is it better to stick to the older model? Find out as we compare the DJI Phantom 2 Vision vs Vision Plus.
Let’s start with the similarities. As the name implies the Vision Plus is basically an updated version of the older Phantom 2 Vision. Both models feature the same white quadcopter body that holds up well even in slightly windy conditions. Both have a maximum flight time of 25 minutes and best of all both copters offer a live Wi-Fi camera view thanks to the handy DJI VISION App. You might also like : DJI Phantom 2 Vision Vs. So with all these similarities what does the “plus” in the name really give you? Quite a lot actually as the team at DJI have done a great job making a good video helicopter that much better. At first glance both models seem to feature the same onboard, 14 megapixel/1080p camera but the Vision Plus actually has its camera mounted on a new three-axis gimbal system. While this might not seem like a big deal at first the new mounting system gives the Vision Plus footage a cinematic, silky smooth quality that immediately makes the shakier Phantom 2 Vision footage seem absolutely amateur in comparison. On top of that, the Vision Plus also increases the maximum range of Wi-Fi enabled live video by more than double, from 300m to an impressive 700m!
