QNAP TS-251
QNAP TS-251 is a 2-bay NAS device that is praised mainly because of its expandable storage capacity. By using the economic QNAP expansion enclosure UX-800P, QNAP TS-251 can have a total raw storage capacity of 60 TB. The model is also very much loved because of its superb performance. It is powered by an Intel Celeron 2.41 GHz dual-core processor and supported by 1GB RAM. Even better, QNAP TS-251 features two memory slots and allows you to upgrade the RAM up to 8GB. It is very powerful, able to serve multiple users simultaneously with ease. QNAP TS-251 has the ability to transcode Full-HD videos either on-the-fly or offline and integrates very well with Plex. There are two Ethernet ports, two USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, and one HDMI port. (See also: Qnap TS-251 Vs Synology DS214play)

Synology DS216play
On the other hand, Synology DS216play is a 2-bay NAS device that features the ability to transcode 4K Ultra HD contents. This is indeed a very cool feature. However, this feature is only available by using the Synology software. If you use Plex, Synology DS216play will not be able to transcode anything. Synology DS216play only has a maximum internal raw capacity of 20 TB. At its core, there is an STM STiH412 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, supported by 1GB RAM. Unfortunately, the RAM is not intended to be user-upgradeable. For connectivity, Synology DS216play only has one Ethernet port, one USB 3.0 port, and one USB 2.0 port.
