Garmin has designed several portable GPS devices that make it possible to explore and still be sure of where you are and where you are going. These devices have full color screens and are lightweight and easy to carry in a pocket or small bag when not in use. Both of these models run off of AA batteries or an option lithium ion battery, which is recommended.
The Garmin GPSMAP 62 model is the lesser of the pair. This model has the same resolution and screen size as the 64 model, but has more battery life. Even though this model has more battery power than the 64 model, it does not utilize GLONASS, which is another was to get a location other than normal GPS services. This model does allow for the addition of maps other than the preloaded ones. It also has 2000 waypoints on the system. There is also the option of using the GPS for Geocaching, in the paperless form.
The Garmin GPSMAP 62 model is the upgraded version of these two. This model has a larger memory space, 4GB compared to the 1.7 GB of the 62 model. The 64 model also has the capability of using a micro SD card to expand the memory. This model is also usable for Geocaching, but it also has 250,000 geocaches preloaded into the system along with the paperless form of geocaching.

Although the 62 model has more battery life, 20 hours compared to the 16 hours of the 64 model. The 64 model uses the GLONASS as well as the regular GPS system. The 64 model is the better system of the two. It has an expandable memory slot, microSD, which is a huge bonus for the system. The preloaded Geocaching points on the system, 250 thousand points, make it easier to use this system for geocaching without the hassle of having to use the paperless version of geocaching every single time.
