For graphic design and art, the majority of people will agree that Wacom tablets are easily the best. Their tablets have been specially designed for the purpose. Hence, as the effect, Wacom tablets have unprecedented qualities that are unattainable by other products on the market when it comes to drawing. In this article, we are going to consider two popular Wacom models, Cintiq 13HD and Companion 2. Even though both are well-known and well-received, they are quite different from each other. Besides, Companion 2 is quite more expensive than Cintiq 13HD. So what are the differences?
In terms of design, Cintiq 13HD and Companion 2 are about the same size. Companion 2 is slightly heavier than Cintiq 13HD, though. They each feature a 13.3” display that also functions as the drawing pad. Unlike other tablets, Wacom tablets have been designed with a matte finish on the screen, allowing for the true paper-like feel. Cintiq 13HD comes with 1920 x 1080 HD resolution, whilst Companion 2 offers 2560 x 1440 QHD resolution. Indeed, Cintiq 13HD’s display is decent, but Companion 2 is obviously on a higher level. The display is much sharper and more detailed. Furthermore, Cintiq 13HD is equipped with four programmable Express Keys; these buttons are adjustable and customizable, allowing you to set-up shortcut access to the functions and features that you use the most. There is one fundamental difference between Cintiq 13HD and Companion 2. Cintiq 13HD is not a true tablet, in a sense that it is not an independent device. It needs to be connected to your computer, and it simply acts as a peripheral device through which you can input your drawing and see what you are drawing at the same time.
On the other hand, Companion 2 is a real tablet. In other words, Companion 2 has a real computer and is able to operate on its own. It doesn’t need to be connected to a computer to function, but it can be. There are some variants, and it is available with Intel Core i5 or Intel Core i7, 8GB or 16GB memory, and Intel Iris Graphics. It certainly has enough power for software like Photoshop, Illustrator, and SketchBook to function smoothly!
