Being able to monitor the condition of your home while you are away will give you a peace of mind. Sometimes, when you are on the go, you may get worried if there is a lamp that you forgot to turn off or if there is someone breaking in. However, you can now monitor your home remotely no matter where you are, thanks to Wi-Fi cameras! There are now some Wi-Fi camera models designed specifically for home monitoring purposes. Some of them that are the most popular are Belkin Netcam and Dropcam Pro. So, what is the difference between Belkin Netcam and Dropcam Pro? Find out below!
Both models are certainly compact and lightweight, but Dropcam Pro is a little bit more compact and more lightweight than Belkin Netcam. The less pronounced body will make it easier to place and to hide. Both models connect wirelessly to your smartphone and tablet, but they need to be plugged into a power outlet. Interestingly, both Belkin Netcam and Dropcam Pro also have similar image quality with 1280 x 720 resolution. However, Dropcam Pro has a wider field of view. It can capture a 130-degree wide view, whereas Belkin Netcam can only capture about 95 degrees. Dropcam Pro also allows up to 8x zoom, whereas Belkin Netcam is incapable of zooming. Both models also have integrated night vision filters that allow them to record visible views even in the dark.

Both Belkin Netcam and Dropcam Pro are without built-in storage. Instead, they upload their recording to cloud. Belkin Netcam has its own cloud service, but the cloud service is not encrypted. On the other hand, Dropcam Pro works with public cloud. Both models can record continuously, or you can also set them to record only when they detect movements. They will then send email alerts if they detect movements. Dropcam Pro can also send push notifications to your mobile gadget, which is perhaps more effective and practical.
On the other hand, Belkin Netcam can be worth considering if you use other WeMo products, like the WeMo Motion Sensor and WeMo Light Switch. This way, whenever you see an intruder getting into your home, you can immediately command your smart home system to turn on the lamps to scare them away!
